Meet Red

This is Red. Red Bear, to be exact (and yes, I know that's a creative name.) Red has been with us since shortly before Cole's birth, but he's really only come into his own social prominence this past month.

Red is, of course, a multi-talented bear, and has managed to adopt both the characteristics of an infant and a michievous toddler. For instance, most days he goes around wearing Harper's cast-offs, which are the diapers and pajamas she's outgrown, (despite the fact that yellow floral clashes mightily with his red hair.) He rides along with Harper in the carseat and the stroller, though I'm not exactly sure that she appreciates having a bear on top of her. Today he was even fed by Cole and rubbed on the back until he burped. The feeding came to an abrupt end, though, when Red "spit up" on Cole's shirt (apparently he has the same reflux problems as Harper!) For the rest of the day he had to wear a bib JUST IN CASE. When he's not on infant duty, however, Red's primary role is serving as Cole's proxy. When I asked Cole the other day if I could take some photos of him (Cole) I was given Red Bear to photograph. Hard to coax a smile out of that fellow... also, Red Bear has made it known that he would prefer not to take a nap but does like to eat peanut butter for lunch EVERY DAY.

But my favorite role for Red is that of giver and receiver of affection. He's helped with booboos, accompanied a shy toddler to storytime at the library, is snuggly at bedtime, and has accepted without complaint more than his fair share of hugs, kisses, squeezes, and, yes, the occasional drop on the head. We're not really sure how long Red Bear will be with us, but for the time being I gladly welcome the imagination and affection that have been personified through him. As an added bonus, I think he's even helped Cole learn to be a little gentler with his little sister. And that's a very good thing!

So that's the scoop on Red...

K, LOVE the imagination stage. Just had to say that. Too fun when they start puting human characteristics with everything. And anything that helps with sibling "whatever" is great.

Love the angle on Red, both in photo and in words. Quinlyn was very loyal to "puppy" (we aren't that creative either), until she got "bunny". She does all of the grown up stuff to her bunny. So funny to watch what they have picked up... and a little scary too! Thanks for sharing the story of Red!

About Us
Hi! I'm Joanna, author of this journal. My husband Mark and I are photographers in Asheville, North Carolina. Most recently we collaborated on a 12 week beginner photography course, the contents of which you can find
    • here.
    • The name of our company, Tuesday's Frog, is based on an almost wordless children's book about frogs that go flying on lily pads one night. We love it because it tells a story in pictures. Cole & Harper are our children, and frequent (though not always willing) photography subjects. So here you'll find not only the story of our lives, but of those we've photographed as well. We'd love to tell your story, too!
