the magic word
Cole is normally pretty good about saying "please" and "thank you" for his requests. The other evening he forgot, though, so I prompted him by asking for the "magic" word. He had this gleam in his eyes when he looked at me and responded with, "caaaaaaaandy." The word was stated with such reverence that Mark and I both burst out laughing.

Although that is NOT the word I was looking for, I can understand why he might have that impression. Candy certainly has been the impetus for successful potty training in this house, and sometimes the promise of a little mid-afternoon treat makes the process of going down for a nap smoother, too. So on that note, I present today's photo of the day...

...that's right, it's the first Necco hearts of the season...(you'd think for 69 cents I could get more than one pink one in the box, but alas, it was all alone, and therefore gets to be front and center in the photo!)

Yea....my god-daughter told me that the magic word was 'abracadabra" once after being prompted several times to say "please." Indignantly too, as though I'm a complete fool for not knowing that was the magic word...

    lol...

Oooooooh...thank heaven for NECCO! I don't know what is IN those things, but they are so ADDICTING!!!! I keep 2 glass tube vases filled with them on my entertainment center by the other V-Day decorations and I swear, I canNOT keep the vases filled. Everyone that comes to our house is immediately drawn to them. I admit, I haven't put them out yet, because I KNOW that I will not be able to stop eating them. I'm giving myself another week! LOL! LOVE the photo!

love the picture Joanna! and love knowing that I'm not the only candy bribing mom out there. It's a canadian thing - but smarties (sortof like m&m's) were my potty training secret weapons.

Love that photo. I'll have to take one... when the sun shows itself again. I just bought a bag of the big hearts! Yum!

Very funny story! I can only imagine. Q knows the "magic" word now, when prompted, but back when she didn't get it the word that came out of her mouth was... abra cadabra... too much time with the Wiggles I guess!

No word of a lie, one year I had company over around Valentine's Day and made an Oreo cheesecake on top of which I put a few of those candies. My guests left shortly after desert. On one of the guest's plate I found one candy left over. It actually said: "Go away"!!!! Isn't that hilarious? Been looking for another since but I haven't found one.

About Us
Hi! I'm Joanna, author of this journal. My husband Mark and I are photographers in Asheville, North Carolina. Most recently we collaborated on a 12 week beginner photography course, the contents of which you can find
    • here.
    • The name of our company, Tuesday's Frog, is based on an almost wordless children's book about frogs that go flying on lily pads one night. We love it because it tells a story in pictures. Cole & Harper are our children, and frequent (though not always willing) photography subjects. So here you'll find not only the story of our lives, but of those we've photographed as well. We'd love to tell your story, too!
