"We learned a lot but I didn't talk."
That is what Cole announced after we picked him up at preschool.
He was very excited about his first day! We arrived a few minutes ahead of schedule (this will probably be the first and last day that happens) and so I made a deal with Cole that we could get out of the car only if he'd let me take pictures. Hence, the photo of the sign, as well as the backpack, which is really what it's all about.

I'll confess, I was thankful to have one pudgy hand still gripping mine when Harper and I walked back out of the school without Cole. But honestly I think Harper had a harder time than I did -- she didn't understand why she couldn't go to school, too. She was all set to sit right down next to Cole in his classroom! She cried when we got in the car and asked, "Cole right back?" (She was also aggravated that there wasn't anyone else in the backseat to accommodate her requests for books or to reach her sippy cup when it fell down.)

But we commiserated together over a blueberry muffin at Starbucks, and I think when she realizes that she'll have free reign over the toys every morning she'll be more than fine. ; ) This morning when I woke up I thought, 10 more months of getting up this early? but then as Harper and I browsed the aisles at Target I thought, 10 more months of running errands with just one child, who still sits in a stroller or the cart and is rather compliant! So I'm sort of excited about that! Plus, Cole enjoyed his first day, and requested that we drop him off at the front door tomorrow rather than walk him inside, so I'd say that he's enjoying this new routine and independence as well.

I can just picture Harper in the back seat dropping her sippy cup and then I had a great image of her in the playroom with ALL the toys, book, and mommy ALL to herself.

    Transitions...

First its hard for the older one to get along with the new child in the home...

Then its hard for the younger one to get along with the older one OUT of the home...

Oh Joanna...they grow so fast! Bens first day is Wednesday and I am dreading getting up early too! But I have been thinking about how nice it would be to go shopping with just one! Does he go for 5 days a week?

I am glad to see I am not the only one with these feelings. Caroline starts in a week and a half. I cannot wait for her but I am a little sad for myself.

Man, I thought Cole was ready for K... but dang, it sure is nice to have just one... and that one gets a LOT of benefit, at least in my house. I don't think Spencer started talking til' C went to Kindergarten.

LOL, I just knew that we would have the same topic on our blogs yesterday. It's great that Cole enjoyed his first day!

I am so glad that I don't have to get up early. Hayden's school goes from 12:15-3:15pm Monday through Thursday. Now that is a schedule that I have no problem with. ;)

I remember taking Porter for his first day. Somehow, I felt like I should cry but managed to hold back the tears. Now, I feel like crying after the first week of summer vacation. :) Only another week to go before he's back in school.

How exciting Joanna! We are plugging away here at home and the best part of our new venture is that we don't have to get up early and can stay in our jammies! Just thought I would rub it in a little....ha! Hope you are good! :)

About Us
Hi! I'm Joanna, author of this journal. My husband Mark and I are photographers in Asheville, North Carolina. Most recently we collaborated on a 12 week beginner photography course, the contents of which you can find
    • here.
    • The name of our company, Tuesday's Frog, is based on an almost wordless children's book about frogs that go flying on lily pads one night. We love it because it tells a story in pictures. Cole & Harper are our children, and frequent (though not always willing) photography subjects. So here you'll find not only the story of our lives, but of those we've photographed as well. We'd love to tell your story, too!
