| Ta-da! |
I've been reading Amy Krouse Rosenthal's Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life, which is, in fact, an encyclopedia of sorts. So last night, prior to a highly annoying smoke alarm incident that had me googling "chirping smoke alarm" at 2:34 am, I came across the entry for Ta-Da!:
Children get to say ta-da!, and I guess magicians, but other than that, it's an underutilized expression. I'm trying to think -- an adult might say it as she waltzes in with the turkey, or a homemade cake. But a self-congratulatory ta-da! would certainly be warranted for any number of daily accomplishments. I cleaned out the trunk of my car. Ta-da! I finished filling out the insurance application. Ta-da! I made the bed. Ta-da! So tell me, what's your ta-da! moment for the day? In the interest of sharing, I'll start with mine...
Today I walked across the living room floor on my hands. Ta-da!! I fell on my bum directly after this photo was taken. Ta-da!!
PS. Chirping smoke alarm: As the battery in a smoke alarm becomes weak, the smoke alarm will "chirp" about once a minute to alert you that the battery needs to be replaced. [Please note: this is especially frustrating in the middle of the night, considering the fact that the smoke alarm is on a wall adjoining a vaulted ceiling and only accessible with a tall ladder, or, in the case of one desperate homeowner at 3:16am, by balancing a 6' step stool on top of a semi-level platform composed of 3 dining room chairs. The word "precarious" indeed comes to mind, but the desire for sleep overrides any such precautions and the battery is successfully, and triumphantly, removed. After searching for a 9volt battery for a short period of time, aforementioned weary homeowner decides to trust the other 8 trillion smoke alarms installed in her home for the rest of the night. De-batterized smoke alarm gets one last laugh at 3:43 am when it chirps twice more, just for spite. Moral of story - replace batteries on your smoke alarms every year and circumvent nighttime disturbances. But you already knew that...]Labels: a humorous life |

| good news! |
The memory cards have been located! I know, you're just as excited as I was to find them, right? Well, humor me anyway... On Friday night I sat down to add a little stitching to a tag I was making, and after running the tag under the needle I noticed that it was lacking thread. Upon closer inspection I realized that the thread was actually caught on something in the part of the machine that houses the lighbulb...

Hmmm, make that TWO somethings. TWO memory cards that had been slipped into the machine as easily as coins fit into a piggy bank...I'll give you one guess as to who was the culprit behind all of this...the little stinker.Labels: a humorous life |

| 2 Fer Tuesday |
So I saw another sign yesterday (I think it was for Pizza Hut) that said, "2 Fer Tuesday." While I'm just going to gloss over that horrid on-purpose mispelling I thought the idea of TWO was good, which is good for you, too, because it means 2 RAKS!
So, without further ado, the winners are:
The person closest to 100: Sibylle
The person closest to 899: Megan Greiner
Whichever one of you lovely ladies emails me first gets her choice of either VIBRANT or MUTED. I put the RAKS together based on color, but really, both are good, so no worries!!
To the rest of you, thank you so much for playing! You crack me up! And for future reference, only one guess per game!!
Finally, I leave you with a different "2 Fer." Harper was sporting some serious bedhead yesterday, so naturally, I photographed it... Thankfully my mom had just sent some adorable barrettes the day before, so Harper was saved from resembling Elvis for the rest of the day.

| ode to Seuss |

Also wrote a little Seuss-ish diddy (which any children's book editor will tell you is a BIG no-no if you're thinking about submitting a story -- but this is a layout and I feel like living vicariously...oh, I know, I'm so daring! ha!)
There once was a boy who tried to be coy and sneak up on some birds. The birds cried, "absurd!" and refused to be lured because they were on to his ploy.Labels: a humorous life, Cole |
