I wasn't exactly sure how close I could get to him...and I sure wish I'd brought the wide angle with me...still neat, though. We visit the Nature Center often but rarely do we get to see the peacocks in full bloom. Labels: Asheville |

| Snapshot Savvy |
I was pleased to have been asked to write the Snapshot Savvy column on camera modes for the current issue of Scrapbooks, Etc. When the issue arrived in the mail I flipped through it locate the column and promptly showed it to my loyal audience. When I pointed out Cole's picture to him he was IMMEDIATELY distracted by the colorful Sandylion ad on the opposing page and said, "I like this better, Mommy." Then he asked if he could be the boy playing with the train instead. Harper, of course, couldn't get past the fact that there was a "puppy doooog" on the cover. So, that was that.
On a different topic, I have to say that I'm slightly less enamored with spring today considering that I was stung by a wasp on the back of the neck yesterday. I am thankful that it didn't sting the kids, since I'd just sat down on the back steps where the three of us usually hang out together to enjoy our afternoon snack on warm days. I'm also thankful that it wasn't a spider bite from one of the two poisonous spiders that reside in NC and are always lurking in the back of my mind.Labels: scrapbooking |

| Sunday comments |
On the way to church this morning a speedy red car darted around us, obviously in a hurry to get somewhere. When Cole offered "lunatic!" from the back seat Mark looked at me and said, "He really does listen to you when you're driving."
Harper learned about saying "I'm sorry" last week after she bit me on the arm. She didn't say "I'm sorry" at that time but the next day as she was climbing down the stairs I heard her say "I sorry! I sorry!" Now she says it any time she hurts herself: After standing up under a table and banging her head: I sorry! After smushing her finger in a door while trying to throw away some trash (she's big into throwing away trash): I sorry!Labels: a humorous life |

Up and down the driveway he goes, when he'll stop, nobody knows...
So proud of himself, and happy as a clam (are clams really happy?) to spend the entire weekend riding his bike. This last one is my favorite. I was sitting on our back steps as he made numerous drivebys (while trying to get as close to me as possible.) Our back door happens to be white, which made it an awesome reflector for when he'd come into range, and it cast great color and light onto his face. It also enhances that little bit of scuff he's got on his nose from a concrete encounter earlier in the week.

| Friday |
Yesterday we had to say goodbye to Uncle Mark already. Boo hoo.
After dropping him off at the airport in Greenville we decided to stop by the zoo since we were already in town. As it turned out, it was the perfect day for an outdoor adventure! The weather was sunny and in the mid-50s -- just right for light jackets. Also, thanks to our handy Nature Center family pass, our admission was free. After greeting the elephants we stopped in at the Retile room. The snakes were so bored they were climbing the walls. Please, God, may I never encounter a python (or any other snake) anywhere else but the zoo. Even this turtle was starved for attention. I briefly worried that he might try to bite Cole's hand but then I decided that his reflexes at over 100 years of age might be a little slow. I really think he was just looking for food. Crazy toucan. After circling the zoo (it's fairly small, which makes it just the right length for young kids) we played at the park for a bit. Look how long her legs look here! (New spring shoes, too.)
"We missed the pandas, mommy." They don't have any pandas, Cole. "But they have bamboo." Well, yes, they do. But no pandas.
After a final consultation with the map Cole concluded that we had indeed seen everything and then we were allowed to return home.Labels: a humorous life |

| mountains |

A little mountain magic for you. Not magic, really, but you can definitely tell why they call them the Blue Ridge mountains. These were taken from the deck of our friend Bob's house (his house is getting so close to completion!) What a view!
Hmmm...can anyone guess who Harper gets that wild hair from? ...in my defense she pulled out the cute pink ribbon barette that was helping...well, sort of helping.Labels: Asheville |

| 3am |
At 3am Cole decided to read a book outloud in bed. At 3am Harper heard Cole reading a book and decided to soliloquize on babies and puppies from her crib. At 3am Mark and I woke with a start and thought, "whose crazy kids are these, anyway?" At 3am we growled, "Go. Back. To. Bed."
PS. If I said that I thought that March came in like a lion I would be referring to Mark at 3am. It is raining here today, though, too.Labels: a humorous life |
