Did I show you this picture by Cole? He calls it "oven." I call it "mommy's cooking." (If you envision the red paint as flames and the green as smoke...and if you know anything about my cooking skills...or lack therof.) Not based on a real incident.Labels: artwork |

| what's this? |
I can show you countless photos of Cole at Easter egg hunts the day before Easter wearing shorts, a short-sleeved shirt, and a hat to protect his face from the sun. But this?

| Easter Eggs, year 3 |
I thought I was prepared this year. I bought the PAAS box a year ago on clearance at Target for something like .25 (must do that again this year.) But then on Sunday when I accompanied Mark to the grocery store (he hates when I go with him, because we always end up spending more money) I forgot to buy extra eggs in my haste to introduce the kids to Easy Cheese. So I made sure to purchase eggs yesterday in preparation for today. But today, when I pulled out the jar of vinegar, I realized that there was only enough in it for one dye. Ugh... thankfully, the PAAS box also lists lemon juice as a suitable "fizzer", and, oddly enough, we happened to have a whole jar of juice, so our morning was saved. (Really, the point of all this babble is just to say that the trouble was well worth it, because this year's egg-dying process was just plain fun.)
Someone was extremely proud to be given her own egg, even if the lemon juice did sting a bit.

Of course, this guy's a pro by now (see March 2005 and April 2006 entries for his previous experiences.)

And here are our eggs (Harper's is the one of the far left.) Happy Easter!!Labels: spring |

| The puppy pillow |
I discovered a neat little shop called "Sanctuary of Stuff" one day while hunting down the Asheville recycling department. The store takes consignments from many different artists in the area, so it's a great mix of handmade crafts, from jewelry to pottery to artwork, as well as some new and vintage items as well. It's like Etsy, but tangible since you get to see and feel everything before you make a purchase. So anyway, a few weeks ago I was in there again (sans children, since that's the only safe way to visit the place) and in the front room were these pillows with dogs on them. Of course, I immediately thought of Harper. A little sign next to the pillows said that the crafter did custom orders, so I emailed her and asked if she could do a puppy pillow in "girly" colors to match H's room.

Isn't she cute? I love it, and I think Harper will, too. I just picked it up today, and it's going to be her Easter treat from Mommy & Daddy (Cole is getting a bird house, since he loves all the birds we have in our backyard). So anyway, I just thought I'd share my delight with you. The lady who makes them doesn't have a website but I can send you her email address if you're interested. She does lots of different dogs and will customize the pillows to your choice of colors of felt and breed. Most of the pillows at the shop seemed more boyish in color, but she added pink polkadot ribbon and a green gingham backing to this one just for H.Labels: Asheville |

| Two for Tuesday |
A special "two" today...this is Ali, whom I had the pleasure of photographing yesterday. Don't you think she looks terrific? Would you believe that she's going to be giving birth to twin girls in TWO days?!
When I told Cole that I was going to photograph a lady who was having twins (and explained what that meant) he asked, "Why is she having two babies, mommy?" My reply was that God wanted her to have two babies, and he said, "that's amazing, Mommy." Indeed, Cole, it is!
We're thinking of you, Ali & Steven!Labels: maternity |
