| new glass |
Normally when I read about someone getting "new glass" it's in reference to a new lens they purchased for their camera. In our case (though we do buy lenses, and love them) we're just as excited to talk about new art glass. Mark surprised me with an early Christmas present yesterday with this piece by Orfeo.

To give you some perspective, this piece is a 17" x 17" square, and the glass is about 3/4 of an inch thick. The sections where the white background shows through are actually clear.
here's a closeup...the orange makes me think of coral.

PS. In case you didn't know, Mark works for a glass tool company, and they deal with artists around the world. |

| words, again |
Last week Cole asked for a Hot Wheels tea set -- do they even make such a thing? Today he asked me if Snow Ghosts have short tongues or long tongues. It's so nice to be confounded by my children daily... |

| How was your weekend? |
ahhhhhhh.... That's the sound of a nice, long weekend. The kids stayed at Nannie & PawPaw's house from Friday - Sunday. Mark & I finished our Christmas shopping and had time to think and talk and eat out. It was nice! And now it's a dreary Monday and Harper and I are slowly easing into the day. Cole's at preschool, Mark's at work, so it's back to the routine for us. Would you believe I didn't take a single picture all weekend? So today you just get words. : ) Share some words with me, why don't you -- how was your weekend? |

| Jenn & Kyle | 11.17 | Montreat, NC |
I know you're probably tired of dress photos but I really liked the leaves outside the window (not to mention Jenn's pretty dress...)
...as well as the "fluff" underneath!
So what do the guys do while the girls are getting ready? Blow off steam, of course...and maybe fake a singalong in one of the classrooms beside the church.

Jenn & Kyle were married in an evening ceremony at 6:30 pm at Gaither Chapel.

Upon seeing the bride for the first time...

I think, just maybe, the bride was happy!

Another good reason to get married in the evening -- a chance to kiss under the light of the moon.

Here's the happy couple entering their reception, which was held at Coleman Place in Asheville.

First dance...

Jenn and Kyle have known each other for years, and on display at the reception were just a few of the hundreds (thousands?) of letters they have written to each other. Below is a journal entry by Kyle as well as Jen's letter the day Kyle proposed to her.

The youngest guests always capture our attention -- this baby girl is just 4 weeks old.

The couple (on the run again) as they exit the reception. The sparklers were in honor of their engagement on the 4th of July.

Thank you, Kyle & Jenn, for allowing us to be a part of your long-awaited and wonderful day! We hope you are enjoying Jamaica!Labels: Asheville wedding photography |

| I have learned |
...not to have high expectations going into a Christmas card shoot with my children. (This is probably the first year I can pretend to have such wisdom, though!) This year we just went with the flow and hung out on the porch in our santa hats. Harper ate a leaf, and a carrot, and Cole played with the reindeer, and they fought over which one got to sit where and we have one picture that isn't perfect but that I have already turned into a card and ordered. We also have about three dozen or so funny ones that make me laugh but that aren't necessarily card-worthy.

I should add, though, that such wisdom does NOT make me above offering candy as a bribe for sitting still.Labels: Cole, Harper |

| This one... |

...got a new helmet last week, and proudly wears it while pushing her toy lawnmower around. Oh, the dangers of lawn mowing.
...was on antibiotics for the first 3 days of this week, which is why she looks a little glassy-eyed in the photo.
...decided that "Hungry Hungry Hippos" was really called "Hungry, Hungry Harper" and ate a plastic marble from the game while playing tea party. LOVELY. Oh so thankfully, she didn't choke on it, and it made its way through her system just fine. Talk about scaring her mother, though! I think it scared her, too, actually, and the game (which we gave Cole for his birthday) is now safely put away.
...has asked me to read "The Kettles Get New Clothes" every day at naptime this week. |

| thank you, Jen! |
In honor of Cole's 5th birthday (and my being a mom for just as long) I received these pretty flowers from my dear friend Jen. She is so thoughtful! So I thought I'd share the flowers (and the idea) with you.

Today, I think, I earned those flowers, because Cole was rotten. |

| 5 on the 5th |

Here he is putting together a skeleton this morning before school, and sporting a new monster t-shirt. On your birthday, it should always be about the things you like...which also includes doughnuts for your birthday treat at school and Seasons 1 & 2 of Scooby Doo on DVD. |

| Scrap-a-Faire starts tomorrow! |
Shoooooo! This week has been busy! But I wanted to suggest that you check out Scrapbook Etc.'s online Scrap-a-Faire event which starts tomorrow. I happen to be one of the instructors for the seven-in-one class. I was able to preview the other ladies' class projects and I have to say, they're pretty cool (the ladies, and the projects!) |
