| Happy Halloween! |

A garden sprite just scampered out our front door...wearing part of last year's costume and part of this year's costume (the only difference between the two is that one is purple and one is pink) and skeleton pajamas to boot. If you see anyone Halloweening out early tonight that would be us, because Harper is very much afraid of the dark.Labels: Harper |

| PPS. The coat is from mini boden, courtesy of Nana (Mark's mom.) Pretty much anything with polka dots has Harper's name written all over it. |

| Sarah & Ryan | October 18th |

We joined Sarah & Ryan on a gorgeous fall day (slightly breezy but sunny) at The Point in Mooresville, NC.
At exactly 12:29pm we encountered them both waiting... (I love when events line up like that!)
But soon Ryan was ready. (Really, he did a lot in between those 2 photos, even if it just looks like he was sitting a lot.)
 ...and then Sarah was ready.
Their ceremony was held on the Function Lawn overlooking Lake Norman...(how I love that the shadow of their kiss forms a heart!)
We've taken a bunch of group photos lately at weddings so I thought I'd showcase one here. This the first formal photo we take after the ceremony, and it usually works well for groups of 40-125 guests or so. We like to require active participation, which includes cheering, clapping and kissing, in addition to the smiling.
A couple of loosely-posed portraits -- "stand here and chat" -- we keep it simple.

The reception was held at the Meeting House. Sarah did a terrific job with the decor, which I'll show in my next post.
 Ryan & his mom...
 ...and Sarah and her mom...
...and finally, a shot of Sarah's father's ring, tied into her bouquet and carried with her everywhere in memory of him.Labels: Asheville wedding photography |

| at the Arboretum |
Since the kids didn't have school yesterday we headed over to the NC Arboretum to soak up some color.

 This photo is so accurate...
Obviously, I had to institute a bribe. This time around it was: if you smile for me, you can take your turn behind the camera, too. (Photos by Cole & Harper -- yes, I should have ditched the sippy cup. And yes, I set up the camera first -- so not just any 3 year old can take my job...yet.)
 (Photos by Cole & Harper.)
...and the reward for such fun...
 So worth it!

| The Pumpkin Patch |
It wouldn't be October without a visit to the pumpkin patch! Not really a patch, per se, but more like a Methodist church roadside stand.... This boy has been so, so sweet & good lately.
And this one? Well....rather the opposite...Labels: Cole, Fall, Harper |

| celebrating 10 years... |

I moved here exactly 10 years ago today. In celebration, I took a drive along the Parkway this morning, and thought I'd share with you one of my favorite spots -- if I were a cat I'd curl up in the grass right under those sunbeams. (At a safe distance from the road, of course!)Labels: Asheville, Fall |

| Miss Catherine - 6 months old |
Sweet, happy, AND she likes stripes - now that's my kinda girl! If you look closely, you'll see 2 little teeth popping out at the bottom of her mouth.
You've actually already "met" Catherine when she was nine days old. It is such a privilege to be able to document her growth! I can't believe she's so grown up already!
She's also the perfect pumpkin hat model, if you ask me.Labels: Asheville baby photography, Asheville portrait photography |

| Our baby butterflies |
Okay, technically I don't know if butterflies have a "baby" stage, but since they were born yesterday and we witnessed their first flights I'm calling them babies. This first shot was taken at 9:30 am, and again, I shot it through the glass...
At 11:30 am... we missed the actual hatching but caught this right before we left to have lunch with Cole at school.
At 1:27pm after we'd returned from lunch... Harper said, "He has a friend!"
At 2:33pm, shortly after Cole got off the school bus...

At 5:06pm, right after Mark arrived home from work, this one decided to climb out the hard way...
...we ended up helping it a bit since the edges of the case were slippery...but then it didn't want to let go of us.
 Drying off a little more....
...Mark took these last two shots while it perched on my arm.
Bye bye, butterflies!Labels: Fall, monarch butterflies |

| butterfly update |
Just in case you're keeping track, here's the current state of our butterflies... (I shot this through the glass of their terrarium, which is why it looks a little fuzzy.)Labels: Fall, monarch butterflies |
