| Happy Thanksgiving! |
Last Saturday we headed across the mountain to the Christmas Tree farm. Yes, I realize this is early, but we're busy the next two weekends. It was rather chilly (20) but clear and sunny, and as the first people at the farm we pretty much had our pick of trees! Look there - that's snow up on that mountain!

Anyway, the reason I'm posting this on Thanskgiving is because they said at the farm that the weekend after Thanksgiving (and the weekend after that) are their busiest of the year. So go early to get a good tree! If you happen to live in NC, check out the 2008 Choose & Cut Christmas Tree Farm Guide here. And, if you happen to miss out on the farm experience, or don't want to trek across the mountains for one, visit the Asheville Farmer's Market for a great selection of already-cut trees and help support our local farmers.Labels: Asheville, winter |

| A Fall Family Fun Session |
A few weekends ago (before all the leaves fell off the trees and Harper asked Mark to please put them back on the trees) I hung out with this fun family at Beaver Lake in North Asheville.
Oh yeah, she's got her hands full with these two sweeties!
But look -- sometimes even they stand still. ; )Labels: Asheville child photography, Asheville family photography |

| sledding |
Last Friday it snowed. Just a bit, really, but enough for the roads to be icy, for school to be closed, and for me to wipe out almost immediately after walking out of the house. Ouch. (Never fear, though, because the camera was safe. I padded its landing quite nicely. Did I mention ouch?) Anyway, it was also just enough snow for one little girl to take her first solo sled ride.

 Again, Daddy! Labels: Harper |

 Courtesy of Harper...
She brought this home from preschool yesterday and I thought the craft was too cute not to share: 1 toilet paper roll, smooshed on the back end to make a seat, and painted green 2 pompoms and 2 googly eyes 4 foam star stickers for feet 1 crinkly pink tongue cut out of construction paper and folded accordian-styleLabels: Harper, kids' crafts |

| do something |
I wore these shoes to church yesterday, and during the walk inside I heard mutterings from Cole about jaguars and cheetahs. Then when we sat down in the pew he whispered, "Mommy, I'm pretty sure you're wearing a hyena pattern." Cracked me up! Although, come to think of it, it might explain why these shoes were on clearance, as I'm pretty sure a hyena print isn't very popular...though there is, indeed, a spotted variety.
Really, though, this post isn't about shoes, but rather, a reminder about shoe boxes. Yup, it's that time of year again - National Collection Week for Samaritan's Purse. How I love putting these together! Especially with Mark's Timberland shoe boxes (the ones with the "Make it better." tagline in the photo.) You could practically fit a hyena in one of those...
As much as I enjoy this project and giving globally, we're also focusing more of our efforts on giving locally this year as well. (Here's a great list of charities in the Asheville area.) So many times on the radio lately I've heard the commentators add, "especially this year." Especially this year we're feeling the pull on our dollars, so if you don't give money, give your time. If you don't have a lot of time, give blood. Give a hug, give a smile, or just open the door for someone balancing four shoeboxes precariously in her arms. Do something to help your community this season.Labels: Asheville |

| A Fall Family Fun Session |
Check out those freckles (and the missing teeth!) I love them! Last weekend I spent part of my Saturday morning with Morgan...
...and Drake (oh yes, just as mischievous as those sparkly eyes would lead you to believe!)
...and their whole family (including Annie, the dog.)Labels: Asheville child photography, Asheville family photography |

| Late Fall |
I'm so bummed these are all on the ground now...
I did shoot this today, though, so I guess they're not all gone yet. I love how the late Fall color spruces up the gray...Labels: Fall |

| Six Novembers |

Technically, we've walked together for seven Novembers. My water broke early in the morning on November 4th, 2002. We called the doctor, who told me to go back to sleep and come in later in the morning. Yeah, right. Mark went back to sleep. I did not. Around 7 that morning I went out and walked that same road that appears in Cole's 1 year photo, willing my contractions to start. They never really did until we went to the hospital and had some medical intervention. And finally, finally at 12:47am on Tuesday, November 5th, Cole appeared. Without a single cry, wide-eyed, curly-haired, and ready to check out the world. I can't believe he's 6 now!Labels: Cole |

| Oh, how she's grown! |
Jeepers these babies grow up quickly! You might remember Isabel...would you believe she's 9 months old already? How I love that bow...and those dark eyes!
Happy as can be in her crib! I love how babies are so comfortable on their own turf!
...and the rest of Isabel's sweet family, also known as her hair stylists, wardrobe/diaper changers, food providers, and entertainment during the photo session. No wonder Emily (Isabel's mom) mentioned that they all took a 2-hour nap after I left! This baby stuff is hard work!Labels: Asheville baby photography, Asheville child photography, Asheville portrait photography |
