| from April showers... |
...to May flowers!

Or at least one flower, by Cole, given to me. It should be noted that there is at least another 8 inches of "dirt" at the bottom of this drawing (he glued two pieces of paper together.) I couldn't figure out a good way to scan it, but apparently his flowers have deep roots. and ant colonies below the surface. and are serviced by yellow & blue striped bees.
All this to say, Happy MAY Day!Labels: artwork |

| excerpts from Cole's Zoo |

Cole has been very interested in making books lately, so I thought I'd share a few of his illustrations from The Zoo. I particularly like how the shark's jaws are separate from his body as top dog in the water tank there on the right.Labels: artwork |

Cole made this for H -- a LEGO version of her favorite puppy. I like the way he thinks! : )Labels: artwork |

| "H" |
Guess who learned how to write her letter "H" the other day? She was so proud to show me this page full of letters! Of course, she wrote them on the backside of Cole's go-cart drawing (the purple part that shows through on the scan) so he wasn't too happy about that, but he IS the one who taught her how to write it!Labels: artwork |

| Santa Cards |

A fun idea I thought I'd share with you. I can't claim it as my own, as one of the Garden Girls shared the idea with me originally. What I have done for our cards is modified the design so that Santa's hat is actually hanging off of the card itself. The cards we made are 6x6, which worked well for a Harper-size handprint but was a little small for Cole's handprints (hence the reason Santa's hat is off the card.) We used green, pink, white, red & black cardstock, white paint, a regular hole punch, a slightly-smaller sized hole punch and an oval punch (but you could hand cut the circles/ovals as desired.) The plastic noses came from some game Cole has lost most of the pieces to, so we decided to put the leftovers to use. (You could also use googly eyes instead of white & black punches.) We wrote on the inside of each thank you note with white pen.Labels: artwork, kids' crafts |

| Frankenstein's monster |
Or as Cole calls him, "Franken-einstein." He put this together on the floor yesterday while I was editing photos, then called me over to "take a picture, Mommy!"

(At least someone is putting my scrapbook supplies to good use! For the record, he used Maya Road chipboard letters and Autumn Leaves buttons.)Labels: artwork |

| fire! |
Did I show you this picture by Cole? He calls it "oven." I call it "mommy's cooking." (If you envision the red paint as flames and the green as smoke...and if you know anything about my cooking skills...or lack therof.) Not based on a real incident.Labels: artwork |

| We've got his vote |
So yesterday we took our sick selves to the polls (Cole, Harper, and I, that is.) Harper was quiet the entire time we waited in line, thanks to an optimal amount of snacks and the stroller. I explained a little of the voting process to Cole, and he was excited to be able to cast his own vote at the Kids Vote corner in the building. I told him that he needed to put an "x" by the pictures of the people that he was voting for. So he very fairly put an "x" by each person's photo and then cast his ballot. He was a little disappointed that he didn't get to help me cast my vote but I didn't want to risk him pushing any of the wrong buttons! Anyway, after we got home, he said he had some "homework" to do. Later on he showed me this picture.

Mark's on the right and I'm on the left, and it should be noted that there is an "x" by each of our pictures. I'm just going to assume that means we have Cole's vote for parents. ; )Labels: a humorous life, artwork |
